I went to Brockton public schools and then to nursing school in Boston. I worked as a nurse for 35 years, 5 years in Boston and 30 years on Cape Cod, Ma. I loved nursing, gardening and traveling. Being the oldest girl and a nurse, when my father passed away, my ailing mother came to live with me. We both loved traveling and went on 8 cruises and many other trips together.

In 1992 I was going to the grocery store, 5 minutes from home, when I was in a car crash with a drunk driver. I ended up seriously injured, resulting in 4 back surgeries over 6 years. I was in a back brace and had rehabilitation for many years. This ended my nursing career. Since I was always active it was very difficult for me to stay put. My mother loved to read and talked me into reading to help me through the bad times. I grew to love reading and have since read over 900 books and still counting.

Curling up with a good book has never been more relaxing...

About 12 years ago I started to get arthritis in my hands which prompted me to find a way to read more comfortably and almost hands free. I tried many things until finally I made the proto-types for The Book Tamer.

When Mom passed away, I moved to Naples, Florida. Seven years ago, I met Jorge Rhodes, who also loved reading and traveling. No matter where we went, (airports, planes, cafes, hospitals or doctors waiting rooms) hundreds of people would ask where they could get a Book Tamer. My answer would always be I had it made for myself. My family and friends would see me sitting in the recliner, at the table, in bed, at the beach or just about anywhere I could read with my Book Tamer.

You can drink your morning coffee and comfortably enjoy your favorite book, all at the same time.

Numerous times over the passed few years, I mentioned to Jorge that I was worried that something might happen to my only Book Tamer. I would frequently mention my desire to patent and manufacture it. I felt it would help not only me but it would also introduce a more comfortable and relaxing reading experience for many people.

Finally in 2006, Jorge said to me. "If this really means that much to you then the only way you'll ever know is to go for it. Remember this is still America the place where dreams can become a reality."

So now here it is! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I would love to hear from you with your comments on The Book Tamer. You can e-mail me at info@thebooktamer.com.
